Thanks to all Anvil members/officers who joined in
Anvil medical/dental mission in the urban poor
community of Parang, Marikina on Sunday, November 6,
2005. The massive and efficient civic project was
undertaken in cooperation with Manila Chinatown
Charity Foundation. Over 1,000 urban poor patients
benefitted with free medical & dental care, free
eyeglasses, free ECG exams to free accupuncture
treatments starting 8am up to 1:00pm.
Guest of Honor was Cornell-educated Marikina City
Mayor Marides Carlos Fernando, who made an eloquent
speech praising Anvil Business Club, the Manila
Chinatown Charity Foundation and the Filipino-Chinese
community for the age-old tradition of multifarious
civic contributions to Philippine society. Mayor
Fernando stayed on, encouraging young Filipino-Chinese
entrepreneurs of Anvil to help Martikina's poor and
ordinary citizens to change culture and to start small
businesses. Mayor Fernando also discussed economic,
political, social and other issues, including the
advocacies of her husband Metro Manila Development
Authority (MMDA)Chairman Bayani Flores Fernando.
Among Anvil officers and members who attended and
actively participated in assisting the young
Filipino-Chinese doctors and dentists included
Chairman George Siy, past Chairmen Bernard Go and
Ronald Ko, EVP Roy Chua, VP Kenneth Hung, Civic
Committee Chairman and Anvil Medical Mission organizer
Eduardo "Eddie" Cobankiat, Victor Tan, Solon Sy,
Richard Sy, Sharon Tan, Jorge Ting, Alex Yu,
Secretariat head Mrs. Amy Uy, Dr. Michael Lui, Anvil
President Wilson Lee Flores and others.
Anvil member Sharon Tan arranged for an Australian
philanthropist to donate---through Anvil Business
Club--- one container worth of medicines to the Manila
Chinatown Charity Foundation. This is an amazing
breakthrough. Anvil Business Club expresses profound
gratitude to Sharon Tan for this unexpected and big
help.
Congratulations and thanks to all Anvil
members/officers for personally aiding the young
Filipino-Chinese doctors and dentists, especially the
hardworking Civic Committee Chairman Eddie Cobankiat
who took charge of all preparations with help from
Mrs. Amy Uy of Anvil Secretariat and Anvil VP Kenneth
Hung.
Anvil Business Club isn't a civic organization, but
primarily a business organization with special
emphasis on promoting rugged entrepreneurship, but it
is heartening for our group to also undertake
meaningful civic projects like this Anvil Medical
Mission.
Thanks also to GMA 7 for covering this event for their
TV news. |
